New ramp for heavy goods traffic to be completed at Pori’s Kallonlahti Harbour

The Port of Pori is developing Mäntyluoto’s Kallonlahti Harbour by constructing a ramp for heavy goods traffic. It will be possible to use the ramp not only for freight traffic but also for industrial use to transport windpower turbines and heavy components weighing up to a million kilos.

The Port of Pori construction project was granted support from the EU Military Mobility Fund. The EU will pay for up to half of the costs of the construction project. The Port of Pori hopes that it will, due to its good location, become one of the leading bases for windpower projects planned in the Bothnian Sea. The ramp can also be used for military purposes. The Niinisalo and Säkylä garrisons were influential in the effort to obtain EU military mobility funding for the project.

Terramare will start work at Kallonlahti in April 2024 by establishing a construction site. The new ramp will be 64 metres long and will be built using retaining quay wall elements, which will be slip cast and installed during early summer. Marine engineering required for constructing the quay will also take place at the site, mainly the levelling of the quay foundations, because the quay area will have a navigation depth of up to 10 metres.

“It’s great for us to be involved once again in constructing a new quay unit at Pori and even the client says that Terramare has the best expertise and equipment in Finland for projects like this”, says Project Manager Tatu Luuri.

The project is due to be completed by the end of 2024.
